Tips for Choosing Children's Shoes

  • Babies: Before they can walk or crawl, babies usually do not need to wear anything on their rapidly growing feet, except soft booties or socks for warmth
  • Toddlers: Choose lightweight shoes, which come up to the ankle to provide support. A smooth sole will decrease friction and tripping. Choose shoes that do not come off easily. Buying shoes more than one size larger may increase the chance of tripping and falling
  • School age children: Choose flexible shoes that bend in the center. Shoes should be well ventilated with a roomy toe area so the toes can wiggle. Lace-up or Velcro shoes are best for stability. Shoes should have a cushiony and absorbent insole. Children's feet grow rapidly so check often to make sure your child's shoes fit properly
