Immunizations For Adults
Over
age 65? Pneumococcal disease is caused by bacteria and may result in pneumonia, meningitis (inflammation of the brain) or infections of the blood. A one-time pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine can protect against many of these infections. All adults age 65 and over should receive one dose of pneumococcal vaccine. Pneumococcal Vaccine
should also be given to some people with chronic physical disease or
the heart, lungs, kidneys and to diabetics. It may also be a good idea
for a person who is recovering from a serious acute problem. People
who have had their spleen removed and those who are more susceptible
to infections should discuss having this immunization with their doctor.
