Immunizations For Adults
Planning a trip overseas? If you're going outside of a major city you may need protection against local infections that you may not encounter in Canada Many diseases that are rare or nonexistent in Canada occur commonly in other countries and Canadian travelers are not likely to have resistance to such diseases. Vaccination against yellow fever, typhoid fever, polio, Japanese encephalitis and other diseases is necessary if you are planning to travel to countries in which it is possible to contract these illnesses. Since it may take
several weeks before vaccinations become effective, discuss vaccination
with your doctor or travel health clinic 6 to 8 weeks before your trip.
Make as detailed a itinerary as you can and then if you've got access
to the internet check out the government sponsored travel websites for
reliable up to date information. Be sure to check again a week or so
before you depart as the disease pattern in an area may change with
time.
