On Site Job Analysis (OSJA)

When asked if it is safe for a person to perform a specific job, the assessor must be aware of the essential duties of that job. In order to determine if a person's impairment renders them disabled because their inability has reached a defined threshold, the assessor requires a detailed physical demands analysis of the pre-injury or pre-illness activities.

On Site Job Analysis are ideally performed at the site of activity by a trained kinesiologist, occupational therapist or registered nurse. Distances, weights and forces required to perform a specific job are measured. Where possible still photographs are taken to make the requirements of the job more apparent to an adjudicator who may not have had the opportunity of visiting the workplace or in the case of a homemaker, the home.

Physical requirements of components of the job are described in terms of internationally agreed upon classifications.

The On Site Job Analysis will also describe environmental conditions and concerns that are specific to the occupation or workplace.

Psychological and cognitive requirements for a specific job are reviewed.
