Unfinished, Unlabeled, and
Unknown Prescriptions

Dispose of any medications that you do not recall the purpose of and any containers that are not labeled.

Many people stop taking their prescribed medications when they begin to feel better and not when the prescription is finished. It is advisable to take the entire prescription, even if you begin to feel better, as it may take the prescribed amount to properly return a person to healthy status. If you find an unfinished prescription in one of your depots, return it to your pharmacy for proper disposal. Never give out remaining prescriptions to family members or friends with similar symptoms. Doing so may result in allergic reactions or serious complications from drug interactions. There is good reason why most prescription drugs should only be prescribed by a physician, nurse practitioner or dentist. If a family member or friend is feeling unwell bring them to a health care professional for proper diagnosis and treatment.
