Spring
Cleaning and Your
Dried Makeup, Cosmetics, and Perfumes These
products should be thrown out when they dry up or begin to take on an
unusual odour. It may not be safe to use eye products, like mascara,
for longer than three months due to the risk of eye infection. If your
mascara dries out, do not add liquids to it including saliva since doing
so may introduce bacteria into the product. If you develop an eye infection
seek the attention of your health care provider, throw out the eye products
you were using, and only begin using new eye products once your eye
infection has cleared up. Do not share eye makeup, even with family
members, as doing so may cause the spread of bacteria. If your cosmetic
product does have a labeled shelf life it is important to remember that
these are only guidelines and improperly handled or stored items may
expire well before the suggested date. Keep your cosmetics out of the
sunlight and stored in a cool, dry place.
