Sun Safety
While the sun's rays can be enjoyable, preventative methods must be taken to avoid the harmful effects of ultra violet (UV) rays. The damage done by these rays is cumulative and can lead to premature aging and skin cancer. Be sure to wear sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, and loose-fitting long pants and long-sleeved shirts to decrease the damage done by UV rays. Keep babies and children in the shade when outdoors. Understand the meaning of the UV index provided by your local weather channel and adhere to the recommended guidelines. Know how to treat minor sunburn and understand the warning signs of dehydration and heat stress, which could be very serious. Here are some links that provide useful sun safety information.
